Les Misérables at Wolf Trap

Les Misérables, one of Broadway’s longest running shows and Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, is coming to Wolf Trap, in suburban Washington, DC.

Based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo, it tells the tale of Jean Valjean, a criminal by circumstance, in pre-revolutionary Frances.. Sentenced to jail for stealing bread to feel his starving family, after 19 years on a chain gang, he is released on parole.

He breaks his parole after attempting to find honest work, and steals pieces of silver from church, only to be saved from the police by the priest he robbed.

The incident profoundly changes Valjean and over the next eight years, he changes his name to avoid being returned to jail and eventually become the owner of a factory and a small town’s respected mayor.

After blaming himself for the death of a former factory worker who was fired and forced into prostitution, he adopts her young daughter.

But is soon forced to flee with the daughter to avoid being captured, by a relentless policeman who is convinced he is not as respectable as he seems and determined to prove it.

The story in print, on stage, or on the big screen is a true classic and the stage production with filled with wonderful music and songs.

Saw Les Mis today at the matinee. The leads played their parts on Broadway. This is a spectacular cast. Would recommend the evening performance because of backdrop scenery that is barely visible during the day. A wonderful story not to missed. This is suitable even for younger children who have been exposed to the musical score prior to seeing the play.

The actors should be very proud. This is an AMAZING show.
