Great Falls Literally Disappears

With all the rain that we have had recently, Great Falls literally disappeared.

Visiting now will give you a rare perspective on the falls, that you only see after massive rain storms.

Here’s a quick clip of the falls from Tuesday afternoon (May 13, 2008)

Great Falls Park
9200 Old Dominion Drive at Georgetown Pike (Route 193)
McLean, VA 22102 (map it)

Days and Hours – Open daily, 7:00 a.m. until sunset.

Entrance Fee- $5.00 per vehicle, individual passes (on foot, horseback, bicycle or motorcycle) - $3.00, annual pass - $20.00

Nearest Metro subway station– West Falls Church or Dunn Loring - Orange line. Then a 7-10 mile cab ride to the park.

    Zz: I was shocked to see how high the river war. I assume it will be that way for at least several days.

    I went on Friday… water levels weren’t as high in the picture but close. The water level was high enough to make a pretty big fall. You could feel the myst sprinkle on your face from observation area 1. I’m sure some of it was yucky sewage water tho. :c(

    Also, a small river was formed inside the canal behind the visitor center. The ducks were floating down the fast current enjoying a ride.

    The kayakers I watched were in the water and gone in just a few seconds. I can understand why the ducks had fun.
