Power-Pop - The Smithereens
For college kids in the late-1980s and early-1990s, The Smithereens were one of the most popular bands on the pre-grunge, post-new wave American rock scene.
The Jersey-based band, usually dressed in black leather, sounded more like a like a flashback 60s band from the UK than a power pop band from the East Coast. With a series of hits and a strong following of college kids, the Smithereens were cool, retro and Mod. Plus, it was hard to listen to them without wanting to dance…even by yourself.
Here’s a couple of my favorite Smithereens tunes.
