Virgin Launches Service Sept. 26th
Virgin America just gave travelers another option to get to Washington, DC from the West coast.
While Virgin America destinations are currently limited to flights between New York’s JFK and both San Francisco and Los Angeles, Washington Dulles is being added with twice daily flights to San Francisco starting on Sept. 26th. Los Angeles (LAX) via SFO will be added on Oct. 24th, also twice daily. You can also get to Las Vegas via San Francisco starting on Oct. 10th.
Using new Airbus A319 and 320 planes with a ton of features you don’t normally see in coach, VA is positioning itself as the high-tech, ipod-gen airline.
Some of their amenities include:
- 110v power at every seat, so no more dead laptops or cell phones (finally an airline figured this one out).
- 9-inch video touch-screens on the back of each seat, offering 25+ pay-per-view movies on demand, plus 18 live DISH satellite TV channels.
- Something that the flight crews will “love”, an order-from-your-seat, self-service, credit card paid mini-bar at the rear of each plane. I wonder how portion control will work. I suspect we may have more in-flight alcohol issues.
- Speaking of seats, all coach seats are leather, with First Class offering white leather massaging seats.
- Mood lighting to simulate the time of day.
With tickets as low as $139 each way, I’m not sure they can stay in business, so grab the bargains while they last.
