Lantern Tours of Gadsby’s Tavern

Return to the times of 1785 and take a 30 minute tour the historic Gadsby Tavern by candlelight, complete with costumed guides.

Located in the heart of “Old Town” Alexandria and near the banks of the Potomac River, the tavern buildings were build between 1785 and 1792. 

With a taproom for to enjoy a drink, a ballroom for parties, a dining room and an assembly room, it served as a meeting place, trade center, hotel for guests that arrived by stagecoach or boat and all important community tavern for the area’s farming communities.  

Stay for lunch or dinner and try George Washington’s favorite glazed duck and Rhotekraut (a cabbage, current and apple side dish), Gentlemen’s “Pye” - a hearty lamb, duck and venison stew or the filet of beef stuffed with oysters and spinach.

Dates and Times - Most nights, 7:00-10:00 p.m., Through August 31st. No reservations required, but check their calendar beforehand to verify that a tour is being held that night.

Tickets - $5.00 per person, kids under 5 are free.

Nearest Metro subway station - King Street - Yellow or Blue lines, then about a 1 mile walk.

Parking - metered street parking and paid garage parking is available.
