Brew at the Zoo
A couple weeks ago I walked through the National Zoo and while it’s a great place to visit, in the daytime summer heat, it can be a bit like strolling the Sahara in the mid-day sun.
But here’s an idea that puts a twist on keeping cool…icy beer and visiting late in the afternoon. Join the Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) young professionals for the 3rd annual Brew at the Zoo.
You can sample beers from over 20 area microbreweries, plus hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and live music by DC’s own Welbilt.
Tickets include beer samples, food, music and a free commemorative mug.
If sampling twenty beers aren’t enough, check out the 900+ I wrote about recently.
Some of the participating breweries include:
- Wild Goose Brewery
- Clipper City Brewing Company
- Rock Bottom Brewery
- Hook & Ladder Brewing
- Shenandoah Brewing
- Gordon Biersch Brewery
- Fordham Brewery
- Widmer Brothers Brewing,
- Harpoon Brewery,
- Magic Hat Brewing
- Dogfish Head Brewery

Another fun thing about going at night is that some of the animals are more active than in the heat of the day. Metro tip: it’s easier to get off at the Cleveland Park metro stop and walk downhill to the Zoo, instead of getting off at Woodley Park and walking up.
Great tips Marilyn. Thanks.
If the National Zoo website (via Ticketmaster) is sold out for this event, you can also get tickets at cost (no added charges) at ‘Craigslist Washingtondc tix’ (tickets) website.
Craigs is a good place to get tickets, just be careful. I’ll have a post on it soon.
