Live Like a Local, Rent a DC Condo

If you’re visiting DC for a week or more you might want to think about renting a condo versus staying at a hotel.

Each option has it’s advantages and disadvantages.  Do you want somewhere where you and your friends can cook a meal?  Do you really need daily maid service? Do you enjoy traveling with friends or family in a communal setting? Will your sister’s kids drive you crazy after 20 minutes? Do you need a pool, bar, health club, etc.?

DC Condo Rental CyberRentals is a great site that offers global vacation rentals, including, at last check, about 20 condos, townhouses and apartments available in DC for weekends or by the week.

CyberRentals lists short-term rental properties available around the globe, from Italian villas to Aspen ski condos, including some interesting hotel-alternative places to stay in DC and the surrounding area.  The site provides a property description, photos, rental rates and availability, and how to contact the owner.  Locations may have additional fees (cleaning, etc.), might not offer typical hotel amenities (such as parking or laundry facilities), or convenient check-in and check-out.

Rental rates start at about $900 per week and go up to $2,700, and most places accommodate more than just 2 people, so this could be a great bargain for people who travel with friends or have a large family and prefer some extra space.

Capitol Hill rental For budget-conscience visitors, this may be a great alternative. One townhouse boasted accommodations for 15 at a weekly rate of only $2,700 (peak) - that’s less than $65 per night per couple.  With that, you get a full kitchen, broadband Internet access, parking and more.

I even found one townhouse near Capitol Hill (think college beach house) with a daily average rate of under $15 per person at full occupancy of 15 guests.  However, if you prefer not to sleep on bunk beds and don’t want to share a room with 3-4 other people, this option might be best for student groups or Girl Scout troops.
