Five Tips and Family-Fun Things to do in Washington DC
There’s really so much to do in DC with kids of all ages. So I thought I’d put a list together of fun kid-friendly things for families visiting Washington DC.
1) I’d recommend that you keep museum visits, especially the non-kid-friendly museums (such as art musuems) relatively short based on the kid’s ages, attention spans and interests.
2) The always kid-favorite National Museum of Natural History can keep the attention of just about any kid (and adult too). Dinosaurs, insects, the Hope Diamond and lots of special activities for kids in the Discovery Room, Insect Zoo and Naturalist Center are sure to delight the little ones.
3) Ride the elevator to the top of the Washington Monument to get a bird’s eye view of the Mall area and city.
4) The National Archives holds the Declaration of Independence the kids have hopefully studied about in school and it usually takes less than an hour to tour.
5) The National Air and Space Museum is still considered among the “really cool” Smithsonian museums by most kids. Space ships, planes, rockets, a lunar module and even a moon rock to touch mesmerize most children. For kids into video games (aren’t they all?), there’s usually a flight simulator that’s feels like a Sony Playstation on steroids.
